About Thomas Scolaro

Tom Scolaro, a partner at the Miami-based personal injury law firm of Leesfield Scolaro, P.A., is an experienced trial lawyer having tried many cases resulting in multi-million dollar verdicts for his clients, including the largest personal injury verdict in Monroe County history. In that case, Mr. Scolaro obtained a $40.5 million dollar verdict for the victim of an assault in a hotel parking garage.  Over the course of his career, Mr. Scolaro has obtained over $100 million in settlements and verdicts on behalf of injured victims throughout Florida.  Mr. Scolaro handles all types of complex liability and severe injury cases in all courts throughout Florida. He is a nationally recognized leader in negligent security cases and an advocate for civil justice for crime victims.

Mr. Scolaro has been selected by both the South Florida Legal Guide and Florida Trend Legal Elite as a “Top Up and Coming Lawyer” since 2005.   He has also advocated and helped pass legislation that now requires any new construction of hotels and resorts with boilers in Florida to have carbon monoxide detectors. Mr. Scolaro and Leesfield Scolaro, P.A. pursued this legislation after 25 clients, who were unsuspecting tourists of the Grand Key Resort, suffered carbon monoxide poisoning emanating from the hotel’s boiler system.

Just in the last few years, Tom Scolaro has resolved cases ranging from premises liability to construction site accidents, sexual assault, and motor vehicle accident cases with catastrophic injuries to his clients.  Recently, Mr. Scolaro secured a settlement of $7 million, when there was only a $1 million insurance policy, for a young man who became partially paralyzed after falling from the second floor of an apartment complex.  The relentless investigation uncovered massive and systemic negligent behavior on the part of the owner, an investigation Mr. Scolaro led for almost 24 months.

Tom Scolaro represented another young man recently who sustained traumatic brain injury following a rear-end accident caused by a drunk individual.  Dwight Grant retained Tom Scolaro for his persistence, which resulted in a $15.4 million verdict in a Broward County court.  Mr. Scolaro’s heralded results have earned him a stellar reputation amongst trial lawyers.

Mr. Scolaro also speaks on a regular basis in front of fellow attorneys.  Recently, in conjunction with the Monroe County Bar Association, Tom Scolaro spoke on Florida bar rules of ethics and marketing, and the art of taking defendant’s experts’ depositions.  Mr. Scolaro is a driven personal injury attorney who has the rare ability to achieve great results for clients who may have seemingly bad cases and turning them into great results.  Experience, creativity, and determination are the engines behind the success of Leesfield Scolaro, and Mr. Scolaro is its most glaring epitome.
