Landlord-Tenant law is a tricky and nuanced focus area in any real estate attorney’s practice. This course will cover topics related to tenants’ rights and responsibilities and potential claims and remedies against residential landlords. When applicable, examples may be based on specific cities, municipalities, and states. However, because this area of law is largely dependent on local, municipal, and state statutes and regulations, most references will be general. Initiating a suitor pursuing pre-litigation mediation, beating dispositive motions filed against your client, best practices for written discovery, deposition tips and tricks, reading and interpreting insurance policies for maximum coverage, and positioning the case for settlement will all be covered.
Christa Conry is an associate at Tobener Ravenscroft LLP a nationally recognized tenant rights law firm. Ms. Conry earned her Juris Doctor degree cum laude from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. During law school, Ms. Conry was the Managing Editor of the Hastings Women’s Law Journal and member of the nationally-ranked Mock Trial Team. She twice received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award and Witkin Award for Excellence. While completing her law degree, Ms. Conry focused on social justice issues, interning for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Equal Rights Advocates. She discovered her passion for tenant rights as a law clerk for the Tobener Ravenscroft starting in summer 2014. Christa was selected to the 2018 Northern California Rising Star list by Super Lawyers, an honor reserved for lawyers who exhibit excellence in practice. Only 2.5% of attorneys in Northern California receive this distinction.
