There have been unprecedented wildfires in California. Hurricanes are growing more severe and polar vortexes freeze the Midwest. Extreme weather is affecting our homes and causing us to make claims under our homeowners insurance. But what if the insurance company refuses to pay? You’re always outnumbered, out resourced, and (sometimes) outwitted. Fight back. Understand the basic principles of homeowners insurance and the battlegrounds of causation, coverage denials, and coverage disputes. Arm yourself with bad faith litigation and breach of contract actions. Prepare to fight giants.
Evan W. Walker is a solo attorney who practices personal injury and property damage law in La Jolla, California. He attended law school in New Orleans and graduated as part of the “Hurricane Katrina” class, having evacuated to Houston during law school. Evan spent his first years as an attorney defending insurance companies against Hurricane Katrina claims. He then spent several years on the east coast working for a large insurance company defending personal injury lawsuits before opening his own plaintiff practice in La Jolla.
