Course Description

Rebroadcast - June 24, 2021

  • 10:00-11:00am PT / 11:00-12:00pm MT / 12:00-1:00pm CT / 1:00-2:00pm ET

This program was recorded on April 23, 2021

As the clients we serve age and become more fragile with time, some will end up needing long-term care being provided in an institutional setting also known as a nursing home. The costs associated with skilled nursing care in a facility have risen and continue to rise, making it unfeasible for our clients to pay privately. Often one client needs to go to a skilled nursing facility while his or her spouse continues to live in the home or community, making it extremely difficult to come up with the financial resources necessary to support both. This course will give you a general, but thorough understand of the components of Medicaid and how advance planning is preferred over crisis planning for the cost of long-term care.

In this course, we look at Medicaid as a health care insurance program as it relates to the care of the aged in a nursing home and understand our objective for Medicaid Planning.

Attorney Ha Thu DaoHa Thu Dao
While the adage of “Jack of all trades, master of none,” is intended to be derogatory, I’ve taken pride in learning a new area of law, and mastering it, every few years. The different practices I have been involved in, from criminal to civil, from trial work to appellate advocacy, from bankruptcy to consumer law and elder law; are all interconnected. By appearing before the same judge all times, like in probate and guardianship, as well as a panel of judges, like the court of appeals and the Florida Supreme Court, gives me exposure to different audiences and judicial temperament. It allows me to see different angles of the same legal issue and be a versatile advocate for my client’s cause.
