This course will provide an overview of medical malpractice claims and litigation by distinguishing medical malpractice matters from other types of litigation, discussing the scope of medical malpractice in the United States, and highlighting the procedural basics of screening and presenting a claim. The course will focus on unique aspects of medical malpractice cases, such as the need for medical expert testimony, the problem of establishing causation, and restrictions on both economic and non-economic damages. Finally, the program will discuss some potential trial strategies from both the standpoint of both the plaintiff and defendant.
Michael J. Trentalange
Mr. Trentalange began his legal career with the Tampa office of Carlton Fields, one of Florida’s oldest and most respected law firms. In 1993, Mr. Trentalange started his own practice, specializing in the representation of Plaintiffs in civil litigation. In 2000, Mr. Trentalange and Elizabeth Kelley formed the current firm Trentalange & Kelley, P.A. Mr. Trentalange is Certified as a Specialist in Civil Trial Law by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. His practice is focused on the reprsentation of individuals who have suffered serious and catastrophic injuries. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Florida Supreme Court, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida.
